Former Mercer Golf Standout Places Third at St. Augustine Amateur

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Former Mercer men’s golf standout Bill Jones III recently placed third in the St. Augustine Amateur Championship, held Oct. 16-18 at the St. Johns Golf Club. Jones, representing his home town of Covington, Ga., carded a 214 (+4) over three rounds to take third in the 74 player field.
Jones opened the tournament with an up-and-down, even-par 70 before firing back-to-back 72’s in the second and third rounds of competition. Jones was edged by Wesley Graham (+3) of Port Orange, Fla. and Blayne Barber (E) of Lake City, Fla.
Jones graduated from Mercer in the spring of 2009 after a stellar season in which he earned all-conference first-team honors.
