CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Two weeks removed from hosting the Brickyard Collegiate Championship, the Mercer men’s golf team returns to action this week, teeing off at the Aldila Scenic City Invitational on Oct. 26-27.
The Bears’ lineup of
Matt Tribby,
Matt Smith,
William Meason,
Matt Kocolowski and
Alex Street will take on the 17-team field at the par-72, 6,999-yard Course Council Fire Golf Club. The Aldila Invitational will feature two rounds on Monday, starting at 9:30 a.m. in a shotgun start format. The final round of the invitational will be played Tuesday.
“We had a good practice round today, if the guys stick to the game plan and play the way they are capable of, we should have a good showing,” Mercer head coach
Andrew Tredway said.
This year’s tournament field includes Akron, Charlotte, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Furman, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Missouri, South Florida, Southern Miss, Western Carolina, and Wichita State.
Both Chattanooga (No. 18) and Middle Tennessee State (No. 39) are currently ranked among Golfweek’s Top 50 programs.
“The guys are motivated, they want to put together a good round and a good tournament,” Tredway said. “I think now is the time to do it.”
Tredway has reason to be confident in his team after a solid showing at Mercer’s own Brickyard Collegiate Championship. At the Brickyard, Mercer outshot Penn State and then No. 18 Michigan.
Recently, the Mercer freshman class was ranked 11th in Golfstat’s Top 25 Freshman Class Impact Rankings.
