MACON, Ga. – Riding a two match win streak, the Mercer volleyball team returns to action this weekend, hosting Stetson and FGCU in Atlantic Sun play at the University Center. Friday’s matchup against the Hatters marks senior night for the Bears.
Mercer is 8-17 (6-10 A-Sun) after topping USC Upstate on Oct. 31. Earlier this season, Mercer downed Stetson 3-1 but fell to FGCU in four sets. This year, Mercer is 3-3 when facing a league opponent for a second time.
Stetson will enter the meeting with Mercer eager to snap a 10-match losing streak. The Hatters are 1-23 and winless in 17 conference matches this season. This year, Kaylee Ream has been the Hatters’ primary offensive threat. Ream has tallied a team-high 136 kills in 2009.
Mercer leads the all-time series with Stetson, 13-8.
FGCU carries a three-match win streak into the weekend and will face Kennesaw State on Friday night before challenging the Bears. The Eagles are 14-10 (13-4 A-Sun) and are jockeying for position in the upcoming Atlantic Sun tournament.
The Eagles boast a potent offensive attack, led by Jelena Simic. Simic ranks third among conference players in kills per set (3.62).
Senior night is slated to begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday’s match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
