MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Stetson in the University Center at 3:30 p.m.
James Florence will be honored prior to the contest for passing Sam Mitchell on the program’s all-time scoring list.
Mercer is currently 9-11 (5-5 A-Sun) after falling to Kennesaw State, 71-69 on Wednesday night. Saturday’s matchup marks the second meeting between the teams in just over a week, as Mercer fell to Stetson, 76-69 on Jan. 22 in DeLand, Fla.
Stetson is 5-14 (3-8 A-Sun) after falling to Florida Gulf Coast, 64-53 on Wednesday night. The Hatters return three starters from last year’s team that finished 13-17 (9-11 A-Sun).
Stetson was picked to finish seventh among A-Sun competition in a pair of polls conducted by the league’s coaches and media. Senior guard A.J. Smith was named to the preseason all-conference team after averaging 12.6 points and 3.8 assists per game last year.
Smith is leading the team in scoring (14.4 ppg) while freshman Ridge Graham tops the team in rebounding (6.1 rpg).
Stetson is 1-10 in road games while Mercer is 4-4 at the University Center.
Mercer and Stetson are the longest tenured schools in the Atlantic Sun conference and Saturday’s meeting marks the 117th game between the schools. Stetson leads the all-time series, 68-48.
