Football Makes Moves In FCS National Rankings

MACON – Just less than 24 hours removed from securing the first NCAA postseason berth in program history, the Mercer football team made additional moves on the national stage on Monday as the Bears took a giant step up in both the StatsPerform and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Top 25 polls.

The Bears (8-3) and Villanova were the biggest movers of any the teams in the StatsPerform FCS Top 25 poll, as both squads jumped four spots into their current position. Mercer will head into the first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs this weekend with a No. 17 ranking – its highest of the season.

Mercer, likewise, hopped up four spots to No. 20 in the latest AFCA Top 25 ranking.

The Orange & Black are one of four nationally-ranked squads from the SoCon this week. Furman (No. 7 StatsPerform/No. 7 AFCA), Chattanooga (18/19) and Western Carolina (23/RV) are also among the nation's top 25 teams.

Mercer will welcome Gardner-Webb (7-4) to Macon on Saturday for the opening round of the 2024 FCS Playoffs. Kickoff has been slated for 3 p.m., and tickets can be purchased for $20 by visiting MercerBears.com/Playoffs.
