MACON, Ga. – Mercer University has announced that it will be offering two different ways to receive free admission to its men's basketball game this coming Friday (Dec. 10) versus Navy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the University Center.
The first way to gain free admission is for anyone presenting their military identification card at the ticket window on the day of the game.
The other way to get into the game against the Midshipmen is to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the door on game day. These toys are being collected for distribution to families of military members stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base, who are deployed abroad during the holiday season.
As a prelude to the game, several members of the Mercer men's basketball team were given a special tour of some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes on at the Warner Robins AFB. The Bears were shown the helicopter operations, including overviews of the armaments and preparation that goes into making aircraft flight ready.
“We are glad and honored to not only be able to play a service academy on the court but also to recognize and help out our own local military at the same time,” said MU head coach Bob Hoffman. “We respect all that they do to protect our freedom. During this season of 'giving,' it helps to remind us of just how much the military and their families – both present and past – have sacrificed for us all.”
