
Jelks Named to NABC All-District First Team

MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore Stephon Jelks added another postseason award to his resume on Friday as the forward was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 22 first team.
Jelks selection places him on the ballot for NABC All-American honors, set to be released by the organization later this spring. Jelks also received All-SoCon honors earlier this season from both the coaches and media.
Jelks joins Stephen Croone (Furman), Ge'Lawn Guyn (ETSU), Justin Tuoyo (Chattanooga) and Spencer Collins (Wofford) on the first team. Tre' McLean (Chattanooga), Mike Brown (Western Carolina), Kayel Locke (UNCG), T.J. Cromer (ETSU) and R.J. White (UNCG) comprise the District 22 second team.
The Marietta, Ga., native nearly averaged a double-double this season, scoring 11.7 points per game and pulling down 8.4 rebounds. Jelks finished in double figures in the points column a team-best 22 times this season and grabbed 10+ rebounds on 13 occasions, including four games of 15+ boards.
Jelks finished the regular season ranked first in the SoCon in rebounding with 8.4 boards per game. No other player averaged more than 7.4 per contest. The forward also paced the league in double-doubles with 10 on the year. Jelks' 11.7 points per outing ranked 18th in the conference.
Mercer finished the season with a 19-15 overall record and an 8-10 mark in league play. The Bears reached the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament and earned a bid to play in the CIT. Mercer pushed its streak of postseason appearances to five consecutive seasons.
