Mercer Stays at No. 23 in AFCA FCS Coaches Poll

Bears are third-highest ranked team from SoCon
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer Bears came in at No. 23 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Top 25 Poll released Monday.
The Bears were one of three teams from the SoCon ranked in the AFCA poll. ETSU was ranked No. 8 and Chattanooga was ranked No. 10.
The Bears stayed put at No. 23 in the poll, despite a 42-16 loss at Auburn over the weekend.
Fred Payton led the Mercer offense, passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Devron Harper hauled in five passes for a team-high 45 yards and two scores. Austin Douglas rushed for 40 yards on nine carries and had four catches for 23 yards.
The Bears have a bye week this week. Their next game is their SoCon opener on Saturday, Sept. 17 at home against The Citadel. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. from Five Star Stadium.
