Mercer Shoots 307, Ranks Eighth at Palmetto Intercollegiate

Terese Romeo tied for seventh individually after first 18 holes
KIAWAH, S.C. – The Mercer women's golf team shot an opening-round 307 (+19) at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course on Sunday.

The Bears will head into Monday's second round in eighth place out of 17 teams. Terese Romeo carded a one-over-par 73 through her first 18 holes to claim a share of seventh place individually.

MERCER ON THE TEAM LEADERBOARD
The Bears head into Monday's round only five shots outside of the top-five. Mercer ranks ahead of the other two Southern Conference teams playing in Kiawah (UNCG, +23; ETSU, +26). Ole Miss (+2) owns a five-shot lead ahead of Old Dominion (+7), which is in second place.

MERCER ON THE INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Despite a pair of consecutive bogies on No. 10 and No. 11, Romeo was nearly flawless through her first 18 holes of play. A birdie on the No. 5 par-five was key to her top-10 ranking heading into round two.

Deems was one-under-par on the front nine with a birdie on No. 9, but a rocky final nine holes of the day dropped her outside of the top-30. Janiga was within striking distance through the front nine as well, having only bogeyed No. 1, but fired a six-over-par 42 on the back nine.

MONDAY'S PAIRINGS
Mercer will tee off at 9 a.m. Monday (shotgun start) and is paired with two familiar foes, Kennesaw State (+12) and ETSU (+26).
