Ania Grzeszczak finishes 21st in women’s 5K

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer women's and men's cross country teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively, at the USC Upstate Invite on Saturday morning at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg.

The women's sixth-place finish came in an 11-team field as they totaled 1:36.58 and 160 points on the 5K. ETSU (1:31.56), Appalachian State (1:32.11), Campbell (1:33.46), Coastal Carolina (1:34.56) and Western Carolina (1:36.52) finished ahead of Mercer.

Ania Grzeszczak was Mercer's top finisher – men's or women's – with an 18-minute, 42.9-second finish that earned her 21st-place in the women's 5K. She was followed by Courtney Czerniak (19:05.7) and Kimmie Whiting (19:23.7), who finished 37th and 44th to round out the women's top-50 finishers.

Marc Reiser (26:51.3) led a group of five Mercer men that finished eighth out of 11 men's teams with a total time of 2:18.14 (197 points). Reiser placed 32nd and was followed by Mark Brannen (27:12.1).

Up Next
Both teams head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Oct. 13 for the Crimson Classic, hosted by University of Alabama.
