Bears conclude Gamecock Invitational with 2-2 record
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Mercer dropped its final game of the Gamecock Invitational, falling to host South Carolina by the final score of 7-2 at Beckham Field. With the loss, the Bears conclude the invitational with a 6-2 overall record, including 2-2 for the weekend.

The Bears wasted no time scoring in the top of the first inning as Quirisa Mauga laced a single down the right field line, bringing home Megan Lane all the way from first for the 1-0 advantage.

The Gamecocks captured the lead in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs on two RBI singles from Mackenzie Boesel and Alyssa Kumiyama.

Mercer evened the game in the top of the fourth inning, scoring one run on two hits, both being singles. Emma Andrew singled with two outs, pushing Abby Walsh to second to set up the game-tying run. Freshman outfielder Allie Jones then singled through the right side of the infield, bringing Walsh home for the 2-2 tie.

South Carolina opened the flood gates in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to put the game out of reach. Four of the five runs in the inning came via two, two-run triples. The Bears were unable to cut into the deficit over the final two innings.
