Bears Close Out Regular Season Tomorrow against Bucs

Bears will host ETSU on Senior Day
MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Basketball will conclude its regular season tomorrow with a 2 p.m. showdown against ETSU inside Hawkins Arena. Tomorrow will serve as Senior Day for the class of 2018.

Running Away in the End
The Bears literally ran away with the game against the Mocs on Thursday, scoring 19 fast-break points compared to zero from Chattanooga. Mercer's arguably biggest fast-break possession came in the fourth quarter with less than one minute remaining. Alex Williams stepped up swipe a pass, taking the ball coast-to-coast for the left-handed layup to give the Bears the 62-56 advantage with 45 seconds to play.
Top Bear in the SoCon
Mercer clinched a share of the SoCon Regular Season Title on Saturday, before claiming the outright throne in Thursday's win over Chattanooga. With the win, Mercer garnered the top spot in the upcoming 2018 SoCon Women's Basketball Championship in Asheville, N.C.
Standout Seniors
Saturday will be the final home game for the class of 2018, serving as Senior Day for Shon Kitchens, Kahlia Lawrence, Sydni Means, Kayla Potts and Alex Williams. Mercer's class of 2018 is 46-12 in contests played at home over the last four seasons, including 12-1 thus far in the 2017-18 campaign.
Last Time Out
Mercer upended Chattanooga on Thursday night by the final score of 65-56 in front of a strong home crowd, claiming the outright SoCon Regular Season Title. The Mocs claimed the opening quarter with a 15-12 advantage. However, the Bears responded with a 22-14 victory in the second frame, claiming the five-point halftime advantage. The Mocs hung tough, trimming the Mercer lead to just three heading into the final quarter of play. Chattanooga lurked around until the final 1:05 of the game when Mercer ended on a 7-0 run to claim the nine-point victory.
Kahlia Lawrence had a game-high 25 points, finishing 9-for-20 from the field and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. KeKe Calloway added 20 points on the night, pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. Sydni Means had herself a game, dishing 12 assists and surrendering just one turnover.

Mercer trails ETSU in the all-time series 18-17. The Bears have won three out of the last four games against the Bucs, including an 85-65 win over ETSU on Jan. 25 in Johnson City, Tenn. The Bears hold the slight 7-6 advantage over ETSU in contests played at home. Mercer upended the Bucs at home last season, winning 72-55 on Jan. 5, 2017.

ETSU enters Macon on a bit of a streak, winning five consecutive games. The Bucs last loss was a 65-61 defeat at the hands of the Spartans from UNCG on Feb. 1. ETSU is currently 11-2 in the conference and locked in at the number two spot in the upcoming SoCon tournament.
Tianna Tarter averages 18.0 points per game to lead the Bucs, while pulling down 4.9 boards per game. Tarter is joined by freshman standout Erica Haynes-Overton with 14.4 points per game and 4.8 boards.
The Bucs play a high-octane style of offense, averaging 68.9 points per game, while surrendering 64.9 to opponents. ETSU likes to push the tempo, averaging just south of 65 shot attempts per game. The Bucs average 4.9 three pointers made per contest, yielding 5.4 to opponents.
