Strong Second Round Propels Bears at Wexford

Mercer men in eighth heading into Tuesday’s final round
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – After a lackluster opening round of 300, the Mercer men's golf team responded with a stout 287 to climb four spots into sole possession of eighth place at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday.
Three Bears – Brennan Bogdanovich, Jerry Ren and Stanton Schorr – improved at least 13 spots individual from round one to round two, helping Mercer get within five shots of the top six at Hilton Head, S.C.'s Wexford Plantation Golf Club.

The Bears made the second-best improvement from the first to second round Monday, jumping four spots into the top 10 of the 18-team field at Wexford Plantation. Mercer's 287 in round two was tied for the sixth-best score.
Mercer heads into Tuesday's final 18 holes one shot out of seventh place, five shots out of the top six and nine shots out of the top five.
Mercer on the Individual Leaderboard
Spencer Ball (1-under-par 143) leads all Bears after two rounds of action. The sophomore was tied for sixth after the first round with a two-under par 70 performance, but fell back into a tie for 15th for the day.
Bogdanovich and Ren both fired second round scores of 71 to reach inside the top 33 individually while Schorr's 72 brought him up 13 slots to a tie for 39th.
Coach Kayden's Take
"Despite starting off slow today, we bounced back with a really good second round and sit in the top half of a quality field," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "Spencer [Ball] had a great opening round to pace us, but we just didn't hit it in play as much as we need to in the first round.
"Our nice comeback in round two was keyed by four great scores from Brennan, Jerry, Stanton and Spencer. There's still plenty for us to improve on, but a quality final 18 holes Tuesday can set us up for a positive result."
