Calloway averaged 21.4 points, while knocking down 30 threes in January
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer junior guard KeKe Calloway has been tabbed as the Southern Conference Player of the Month for January, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the third consecutive month that a Mercer Bear has claimed SoCon Player of the Month honors this season.
Â
Calloway had a breakout month in January, averaging 21.4 points per game while aiding Mercer in a perfect 7-0 record. Calloway netted 57 shots from the field, including 30 from downtown, while also averaging 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. The junior guard kicked off the month with back-to-back career highs, dropping 34 points and five steals in a 71-46 win over Wofford. Calloway followed that performance with a 40-point outing at Furman as she knocked down an NCAA record-tying 12 triples. The 12 three pointers shattered the previous SoCon record of nine and her 40 points still stand as the most points scored by a SoCon player this season.
Â
Following wins against Samford and UNCG, the Georgia native scored 23 points against Western Carolina, including her 1,000th career point. Calloway then concluded the month with 21 points at ETSU behind a 5-for-6 performance from long range, followed by 17 points, five rebounds and two steals at Chattanooga. Calloway aided the Bears in snapping the Mocs' 53-game home SoCon winning streak. Â
Â
Calloway has already set a new program single-season record for three pointers made (80) and currently ranks ninth in the NCAA in said category. Calloway also ranks among the top 15 in four other SoCon statistical categories, while ranking 10th in the NCAA in threes attempted (198) and 16th in threes made per game (3.33).
Â
Calloway and the Bears (22-2) will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host the Samford Bulldogs to conclude a three-game home stretch.
