Mercer rounded out 17-man signing class Wednesday
MACON, Ga. – Mercer announced five additional signees for its 2018 football signing class Wednesday morning, rounding out a 17-man group that will officially join the Bears next fall.
Â
Mercer's 17-man class includes 14 in-state products as well as one signee apiece from South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida. Seven linemen (four offensive, three defensive) highlighted the class while the Bears also brought in three defensive backs, three wide receivers, one running back, one outside linebacker, one quarterback and one tight end.
Â
"We have a tremendous group of young men who decided to join #MUvment18 and I couldn't be more thrilled for the future of Mercer Football," said head coach Bobby Lamb. "Our coaching staff identified the areas we needed help in and sought out the right guys for the job. We've added 14 young men from the great state of Georgia, further proving our commitment to recruiting in-state.
Â
"It all starts with the seven linemen we signed in December – seven of our 17 guys will be playing with their nose on the ball. We're also pleased with adding three wide receivers after losing a pair of quality receivers last fall. I'm most proud of this signing class' academic abilities, as they boast a collective 3.4 [grade point average]. Our coaches did a great job of not only identifying talent on the field, but in the classroom as well."
