Shaw family to throw out first pitch at Wednesday’s game
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program will tip its cap in honor of the late Colton Shaw by presenting his family with a memorial scholarship and a Mercer jersey prior to Wednesday's game against Georgia Southern at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Shaw passed away on March 26, 2015 in a hospital less than one day after being struck in the head by an errant throw during a Valdosta High School junior varsity baseball game in Moultrie, Ga. He was 14 years old and had plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy at Mercer.
Colton's parents, Gwin and Clay, and sisters, Gailey and Ellie, will be present Wednesday to receive the memorial scholarship in addition to throwing out the honorary first pitch at 6 p.m.
"The Mercer baseball program is incredibly honored to have the Shaw family with us at Wednesday's game," said head coach Craig Gibson. "We're happy to honor the life of Colton, a young man who made a large impact on in such a short time.
"To honor the Shaw family with a memorial scholarship for Colton is a special opportunity for Mercer University and our baseball program."
More information about Shaw and a scholarship fund that has been created in his name can be found here.
