Bears falter against Austin Peay, roll past Rutgers
MACON, Ga. – Mercer split a pair of games Friday as it opened its final home tournament, the Mercer Bears Classic, with a 6-3 win over Rutgers and a 7-1 loss to Austin Peay at Sikes Field.
Â
Game 1: Austin Peay 7, Mercer 1
The Bears dropped their first game of the day as Austin Peay tagged Mercer starting pitcher Megan Bilgri for four home runs, including a pair of two-run long balls by designated player Morgan Rackel. A solo home run by Abby Walsh in the bottom of the fifth tied the game, 1-1. It was Mercer's only run production of the game, however, as the Governors plated six runs over the final two innings.
Â
Bilgri struck out eight batters as she fell to 6-4 on the season. Walsh and Caroline Taylor collected two hits apiece in the loss.

Allie Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded later in the third to extend Mercer's lead to 4-1.
