Bears drop both matches against Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast

MACON, Ga. – Mercer (6-11) fell on its second day of the season's conference opening matches against Stetson (17-6) and Florida Gulf Coast (9-6) Saturday. The Hatters and the Ealges held the Bears to a 4-1 advantage.

Individually, Marina Chavez went 2-0 for the day, defeating Stetson 2-1 and Florida Gulf Coast 2-0. Chavez and her partner Lela McIntosh, knocked the Hatter's fourth seed overcoming them 21-18, 7-21, 17-15. Chavez's second match of the day commenced with partner Emilee Wissmach. The two defeated the Eagles 21-17 and 21-16 as the fifth seed.

UP NEXT
Mercer will continue its conference season traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. to challenge Jacksonville and North Florida in a two-day slate. The Bears will test Jacksonville on Friday at 11 a.m. before facing North Florida at 1 p.m. Mercer will continue play the following day, facing Jacksonville at 12 p.m. and North Florida at 2 p.m.
