Mercer Earns Win in Final Game of Bulldog Slamboree

Mercer handled Alcorn State with ease, 9-1
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mercer claimed the 9-1 victory over Alcorn State in the final game of the Bulldog Slamboree on Sunday morning. With the win, Mercer improves to 14-5 on the season and 2-3 in the Starkville tournament.

Mercer 9, Alcorn State 1
Mercer made quick work of the Braves in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on three hits. After the Bears held Alcorn State to a 1-2-3 inning, Caroline Taylor provided Mercer with a four-run lead after a grand slam, her sixth long ball of the season.

The Bears extended their lead to six in the bottom of the second inning as Quirisa Mauga roped a two-out, two-run single to left field, plating Megan Lane and Micayla Rood.

The Braves cut into the Mercer lead in the top of the third after a two-out double, followed by a single from Amari Ramsey, bringing home Lindsey from second.

Mercer capped off the scoring with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning, beginning with Lane's RBI single through the right side of the infield. Lane later scored following two wild pitches and a passed ball. The final run of the game for the Bears came via Emma Andrew's RBI single, plating Allie Jones for the 9-1 lead.

Jill McElderry threw a complete game, allowing two hits and one run, while punching out seven batters. McElderry improves to 4-1 on the season.
