Mercer Tennis Set For SoCon Championships In Chattanooga

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's men's and women's tennis teams travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete for the 2018 Southern Conference Championship April 20-22 at the Champions Club.

The two teams are under the direction of fifth-year head coach Eric Hayes. The men's squad is seeded No. 2 at the SoCon Championships and will square off against No. 7 seed Chattanooga Friday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. The winner of that match will advance to the semifinals to face either No. 3 Furman or No. 6 Wofford. The Bears are 15-6 overall and finished 5-1 in regular season conference play. Mercer's men enter the tournament riding a four-match winning streak. Senior Sam Philp leads the Bears and is rated No. 117 nationally in the latest ITA singles rankings. East Tennessee State is the defending SoCon Men's Tournament champion.

Mercer's women's team is seeded No. 5 in the SoCon Championships and will face No. 4 seed Chattanooga Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to the semifinal round to face either No. 1 Furman or No. 8 UNCG. The women finished regular season play 10-11 overall and 3-4 in the league. The women are led by senior Grace Korta and junior Katie Sidor. Furman is the defending SoCon Women's Tournament champion.
