McElderry dominates in 7-0 shutout over Alabama State
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Bears capped off their nonconference schedule with a 7-0 win over the Lady Hornets of Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala. Following the win, Mercer improved to 28-13 on the season, including 21-12 on the road. Alabama State falls to 17-24 following the seven-run loss.

Mercer 7, Alabama State 0
Mercer was sure to take control of the game early, scoring two runs in the opening inning. After back-to-back singles by Laurenne Sanchez and Megan Lane, Caroline Taylor cleared the bases with a high chopper over the third baseman's head for the 2-0 advantage.

The Bears doubled their lead to four in the second inning, first scoring following a Meghan Rud bunt single and two throwing errors from the Lady Hornets, allowing Micayla Rood to score from first. Laurenne Sanchez capped off the scoring in the inning with a single to short, bringing Rud in for the 4-0 advantage.

Mercer scored three runs in the final four innings to run its lead to the eventual final score of 7-0. The fifth run of the ball game came via an RBI double down the left field line off the bat of Lane, her ninth double of the season. The Bears scored one in the fifth inning following an Abby Walsh stolen base, allowing Emma Andrew to score from third following the throw to second base. The final tally for Mercer came off a long ball from Quirisa Mauga, her fourth dinger of the season.

Jill McElderry slammed the door shut on the Lady Hornets' bats, allowing just four hits en route to her eighth complete game and her team leading fourth shutout of the season. The Florida senior punched away two batters while improving to 9-2 on the campaign.
