Coach Kayden's Take
"We had a really good start to the day and just couldn't hold it together on the second nine of the first round, but we actually improved our score in the second round despite dropping a few spots in the field," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "Stanton [Schorr] obviously had a really solid day with a 72-70. He continues to perform at a high level for us every day and picked up a hole-in-one as well.
"Hayes [Rule] came through for us in the second round. We're still looking for consistent scores from more of our guys, and we're confident it can be tomorrow for a solid finish."
Mercer on Team Leaderboard
Other than clubhouse leader Rice (+3), the Bears are within single-digit strokes of four teams ahead of them. Mercer is just one stroke outside of the top five and eight shots off second-place Lipscomb (+12) and Western Kentucky (+12).
Mercer sits ahead of one Southern Conference foe (Samford) and is tied for sixth place with Chattanooga heading into the final 18 holes.
Mercer on Individual Leaderboard
It was an eventful day for Schorr, who is six shots off the individual leader with 18 holes to play Tuesday. The junior had a scorching start to the day, going five-under-par on the first four holes. His hole-in-one came via a six iron on the 190-yard, par-three No. 11. It is his second hole-in-one in his collegiate career at Mercer.
