ABOUT THE STADIUM
Mercer University broke ground and unveiled plans for its new football and lacrosse complex during a Homecoming weekend ceremony on Nov. 11, 2012.
Â
Several hundred faculty, staff, students, trustees and community members were on hand for the ceremonial groundbreaking, which was held adjacent to the construction site.
The Homer and Ruth Drake Field House includes football and lacrosse coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, a student lounge, locker rooms, gameday suites, a weight room and a training room. It also features a sports medicine clinic that is operated by the Mercer School of Medicine. It provides physical therapy services and treats student-athletes as well as the general public.
Â
The stadium complex was designed by McMillan-Pazdan-Smith Architecture of Spartanburg, S.C., and the general contractor is Chris R. Sheridan & Co. of Macon.
The first game took place on Aug. 31, 2013 against Reinhardt University. The Bears rallied in the fourth quarter and 12,172 fans witnessed a game-winning field goal by Josh Shutter with three seconds remaining to give Mercer a 40-37 comeback victory.
