
Volleyball Handles USC Upstate, 3-1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Amiee Frutchey had a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 22 digs in Mercer's 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22, 25-18) victory over USC Upstate in Saturday afternoon's Atlantic Sun volleyball match at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Mercer moved to 9-16 (1-6 A-Sun) with the win while USC Upstate fell to 7-16 (2-7 A-Sun).
Frutchey's double-double was her third of the year and came on 58 attempts with only eight errors. Junior Madeline Dolny booked a match-high 50 assists while notching nine digs and a pair of kills.
Senior Charlotte Harris chipped in a team-high 23 digs while junior Jamie Duffy had her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 16 digs.
Junior Jennifer Katona led the team with a match-high .370 attacking percentage after being credited with 12 kills on 27 attempts.
After allowing USC Upstate to record a .269 hitting percentage as a team in the first set, the Mercer defense buckled down and limited the Spartans to hitting percentages of .115, .182 and .162 in the final three frames.
Mercer eventually out-blocked USC Upstate 7-4 in the match.
Mercer returns to action hosting North Florida on October 28 at the University Center. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
