CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – Freshman Mary Alice Murphy fired a Mercer low round of one-over 73 in the opening round of the University of Cincinnati Intercollegiate at the Plantation Golf Resort. As a team, Mercer's opening round total of 307 places the team eighth in the 23-team field.
In the team standings, Morehead State (290) leads second-place Florida Southern by five strokes. Mercer's day one total places the Bears four strokes behind the pace of seventh-place Stetson.
Murphy's opening round 73 places the Lookout Mountain, Tenn. native in a tie for sixth place individually. Sophomore Kimmy Graff carded a 76 on Friday and is tied for 22nd overall in the 121-golfer field.
Murphy's classmate, Lacey Fears, carded a 77 in the first round and is in a 15-way tie for 33rd place. Sophomore Kaitlin Marrin used 81 strokes on Monday and is tied for 81st in the tournament while sophomore Aurelie Wiriath recorded an 85 and is tied for 100th place overall.
The second round of competition begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
