MRTYLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman Mary Alice Murphy used a team-best 156 strokes in the opening 36 holes of the Barefoot at the Beach Invitational. As a team, Mercer's two-round score of 641 places the team 13th entering Tuesday's final round at the Davis Love Course.
Mercer's score of 641 (315-326) places the team just one stroke behind Marshall for 12th place and only seven strokes off the pace of 10th place Appalachian State. East Carolina leads the field with a cumulative total of 586.
Murphy's 156 came by virtue of an opening round 79 and a second round 77. Entering the final round of play, Murphy sits tied with two others for 34th place in the 82-golfer field.
Sophomore Kimmy Graff posted an 80 in the first round before improving upon that total by one stroke in the second round. Graff's two-round score of 159 places the sophomore tied for 47th overall.
Freshman Lacey Fears opened the event with a 77 before needing 84 strokes in her second round of competition. Fears currently occupies 55th place individually.
Junior Keri Lynn Carson two-day total of 165 (79-86) slots her 64th individually while sophomore Aurelie Wiriath rounds out Mercer's participants with a score of 178 (90-88).
The final round of the Barefoot at the Beach Invitational begins Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
