
Lipscomb Tops Volleyball, 3-0

MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior Charlayna Braxton knocked down five kills in two sets of work, but the Lipscomb volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) victory in Friday night's Atlantic Sun conference match at the University Center.
The match marked the conference opener for both teams. Lipscomb pulled even at 6-6 (1-0 A-Sun) on the season while Mercer dropped to 4-10 (0-1 A-Sun).
Braxton's five kills came on just nine swings as the Powder Springs, Ga. native booked a team-high .333 hitting percentage. Braxton also tallied a pair of block assists in the loss.
Braxton's classmate, Jamie Duffy, tallied four digs on the evening, moving her career total to 401. Duffy also contributed three kills, an assist and a block assist on Friday night.
Senior Charlotte Harris notched a team-high 12 digs while senior Amiee Frutchey led the team with seven kills.
Lipscomb powered its way to a first set victory by limiting the Bears to a -0.333 hitting percentage. The Bears could only muster seven kills in the frame.
In the second set, Mercer broke away from a 17-17 tie with four-straight scores. Later in the set, Mercer held a 22-18 advantage before Lipscomb closed the stanza on a 7-1 run.
Lipscomb held the advantage for the entirety of the third set.
Mercer setter Madeline Dolny dished out 10 assists in the match and also contributed six digs. Her streak of double-digit assist matches now stands at six.
Mercer returns to action hosting Belmont on Saturday at 3 p.m.
