
Mercer Sweeps UT-Chattanooga 3-0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Mercer volleyball team used 13 total team blocks and a .186 hitting percentage to come away with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 27-25) victory over UT-Chattanooga on Wednesday evening at Maclellan Gym.
Junior outside hitter Jamie Duffy had nine kills to lead a Mercer attack that featured five players with six kills or more.
Senior Charlotte Harris had 15 digs in the win for her seventh-straight game with at least 10 digs.
The Bears were deadlocked at 17-17 with the Mocs in the first set until Duffy put away an attack to give Mercer an 18-17 lead. Freshman Caroline Carlton secured the first set victory for the visitors with a kill off a set from classmate Monica Sanchez to make the score 25-20.
After a comfortable 25-19 second set win, the Orange and Black were forced into extra action in the third and deciding set. With Chattanooga clinging to a 25-24 lead, junior middle blocker Charlayna Braxton hammered down a kill to tie the game at 25-25. Two-straight attacking errors by the Mocs concluded the set and gave Mercer a 27-25 victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Kuroski led Chattanooga with 12 kills on 34 attempts in a losing effort.
Mercer jumps back into Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend when it travels to Florida to take on Jacksonville on Friday night at 7 p.m.
