
Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to Jacksonville

MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore Caroline Carlton and freshman Molly Locke combined for 24 kills in the volleyball team's 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19) loss to Jacksonville at Hawkins Arena on Friday night.
Mercer's loss sent the team to 9-14 (5-8 A-Sun) on the season while Jacksonville's second-straight win bumped the Dolphins to 6-20 (4-9 A-Sun).
Locke's 12 kills came in conjunction with 11 digs as she booked her team-leading 13th double-double of the season. Carlton's 12 kills came in comparison with only six errors as she broke into double-digit kills for the third-straight outing.
At the outset, Jacksonville jumped all over Mercer and scored the match's first 10 points. Mercer battled back to close within five, but ultimately surrendered the frame 25-17. Mercer returned the favor in the second set, racing out to an 8-1 advantage before evening the match score at one apiece.
In the third stanza, the teams were knotted at eight before a 9-3 surge gave Jacksonville control. In the final set, Mercer held the early 3-1 edge but were overtaken by a 6-1 Jacksonville charge.
Senior setter Monica Sanchez piled up 42 assists and six digs in the loss. Junior Emily Rochefort collected a 15 digs and added a kill, while senior Jamie Duffy tallied a team-high 17 digs.
Senior middle blockers Charlayna Braxton and Jennifer Katona had mirroring stat lines, each posting attacking percentages of .200 with seven kills and three errors.
Mercer returns to the Hawkins Arena hardwood on Saturday, hosting North Florida in the annual Senior Day match at 3 p.m.
