MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's team couldn't adjust to extremely windy conditions in a 5-1 loss against Brenau University on Saturday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Mercer (1-2) hosted NAIA member Brenau University on Saturday as a rescheduled match after its original date with the Tigers was postponed due to rain on Jan. 22.
The Bears started out behind the eight-ball after dropping the doubles point to start the afternoon. Senior Jennifer Lada and sophomore Lucie Payrat lost a tough 8-5 decision in doubles play to Brenau's number one pairing of senior Lyn See Choo and freshman Maria Perdoma Medina.
Moving into singles play didn't help the Bears, as the Tigers won the number one, three four and five flights in straight sets.
The one lone bright spot for the Orange and Black was the play of Payrat at number two singles. The Cessan-Sevigne, France native defeated Perdoma Medina to give the Bears their only point of the match.
Mercer returns to the hard courts on February 21, when it hosts Jacksonville State at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
