Men's Golf Takes Fourth at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Mercer men's golf team finished its showing at the Seminole Intercollegiate with a 279 (-5) on Sunday and completed the event fourth among the 18-team field. Sophomore James Beale picked up Mercer's top individual finish at Southwood Golf Course, placing in a tie for ninth with a three-day total of 210 (-3).
Mercer's 279 on Sunday was the fourth-best team score in the final round and brought the Bears' tournament total to 849. Host Florida State won the team title with a three-round total of 829 while Georgia Tech finished one stroke behind the Seminoles. Kennesaw State finished seven strokes ahead of Mercer for third place, while North Carolina placed fifth (857).
Beale's tie for ninth place was his first collegiate career top-10 finish and came after carding an even-par 71 in Sunday's action. On Friday and Saturday, Beale collected scores of 70 and 69.
Freshman Trey Rule also signed for an even-par 71 on Sunday and tied for 20th overall. His 71 came after shooting 70-72 in the opening two rounds.
Mercer's best round of the day belonged to sophomore Hans Reimers, who fired a 3-under 68, showing a six-stroke improvement on his round two total. Reimers' three-day total of 215 slotted him in a tie for 29th overall.
Junior John Gregory Joseph has his best round of the event on Sunday, using only 69 strokes to complete the 7,050-yard layout. Joseph's 69 came after back-to-back 74's and landed him in a tie for 36th.
Junior Thomas Holmes needed 76 strokes on Sunday and finished with a 54-hole total of 218. His effort positioned him in a tie for 40th individually.
Mercer returns to competitive play at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational on March 19. The event will be contested over two days at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Florida.
