Men's Golf Moves to Fifth at A-Sun Championship

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's golf team elevated to fifth place on the team leaderboard of the Atlantic Sun Championship Tuesday, posting a score of 297 in the second round of play. Entering Wednesday's final round at the Legends Course of Chateau Elan, the Bears are four strokes behind Florida Gulf Coast for fourth place.
Mercer's 297 was a six stroke improvement on its day one total and moved the Bears up from a tie for sixth after yesterday's proceedings. No. 8 North Florida (573) extended its lead on the field with a 286 on Tuesday and now holds a 10 stroke lead over both Kennesaw State and East Tennessee State.
Sophomore James Beale continued to lead the way for the Orange and Black, carding a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Beale's 74 combined with his opening round 71 to place him in a tie for sixth place individually. The Auckland, New Zealand native is just one stroke behind ETSU's Rhys Enoch for fifth place and eight strokes off the pace of tournament leader, Sean Dale of UNF.
Sophomore Trey Rule and junior Thomas Holmes both equaled Beale's 74 on Tuesday. Rule (150) holds sole possession of 19th place while Holmes (151) is tied for 20th.
Senior Josh Cone improved upon his day one total by four strokes, shooting 75 in the second round. Cone currently is 35th overall with a score of 154. Sophomore Hans Reimers took an up-and-down route to a 75 on Tuesday and is tied for 38th with a tournament score of 156.
The final round of competition is slated for an 8 a.m. start Wednesday.
