Beale Completes Day One of NCAA Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – Mercer sophomore James Beale fired a 72 on the opening day of the NCAA Regional, finishing the day tied for 37th on the overall leaderboard at the UGA Golf Course. Of the 10 individuals competing at the Athens Regional, Beale is third and just four strokes off the leader's pace.
Beale's 72 placed him behind Sebastian Soderberg (Coastal Carolina) and Trey Valentine (South Florida) in the individual competition. Soderberg's 68 (-3) was the low round for the individual group and has him tied for 10th overall, while Valentine's 69 (-2) placed him tied for 14th.
After carding two bogeys and a birdie on the front nine, Beale posted two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to enter the clubhouse at 72 (+1). Beale's 72 outpaced 38 participants on Thursday.
The low individual from each of the six regional tournaments will advance to the final tournament of the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 29-June 3 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
On Friday, Beale begins his second round from the 10th hole with his tee time set for 9:50 a.m.
