
Lipscomb Blanks Volleyball, 3-0

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) loss to Lipscomb on Saturday at Hawkins Arena despite a team-high nine kill effort from freshman Ellie James. The Bears slipped to 1-24 (0-15 A-Sun) on the year while Lipscomb moved to 18-6 (12-2 A-Sun).
James collected her nine kills on 30 swings while adding four digs and two block assists. Junior Caroline Carlton posted eight kills and four total blocks in the loss.
Mercer led 17-9 in the opening set before Lipscomb rallied with a 12-2 run to retake the lead en route to victory. In the second set, the Bears were up 4-1 before the Lady Bisons rallied with four-straight points. Later, the set was tied at 10-10 when Lipscomb began a 7-2 run to create separation. In the third set, Lipscomb broke away from an 8-8 tie with five straight points and never trailed en route to the win.
Sophomore Molly Locke registered a team-high 15 digs in the loss while senior Emily Rochefort added 11. Senior Carly Iannarino finished with 16 assists and freshman Tori Penrod added 12 helpers.
Mercer is back in action at Jacksonville on November 8. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
