Women's Golf Third After Two Rounds of A-Sun Championship

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team put together a 294 cumulative total in Tuesday's second round of the Atlantic Sun Championship, finishing the day in third place on the team leaderboard at Pine Lakes Golf Course. Mercer's efforts were highlighted by junior Lacey Fears, who birdied two of her final three holes to move into a tie for eighth place individually.
Mercer's 294 was a four-stroke improvement on Monday's total and positions the team three strokes back of Florida Gulf Coast (589) and 14 strokes off the pace of tournament leading ETSU (578).
Fears' strong finish capped a round of 71 (-1) and placed her in a three-way tie for eighth place at 146. The round was her fourth sub-par score of the season and placed her five strokes behind a trio of players leading the tournament.
Junior Mary Alice Murphy, senior Kaitlin Marrin and sophomore Sara Louie Brown are all tied for 12th place with 36-hole scores of 149. Brown fired a 73 while Murphy used 74 strokes and Marrin took 77 swings on Tuesday. Senior Aurelie Wiriath posted a 76, an improvement of three strokes on her day one total, to move into a tie for 31st place.
