KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Mercer men's golf team captured an eighth place finish in the Irish Creek Collegiate on Sunday, outpacing nine other teams with a three-round total of 877. Sophomore Trey Rule and junior Hans Reimers were both part of a five-way tie for 10th place on the individual leaderboard.
Mercer's tournament score was highlighted by a team total of 288 in Sunday's final round, marking the Bears' best 18-hole score in the event. Sunday's effort was fueled by Rule's 68 while marking the team's lowest score of the event.
His 68 came on the heels of a pair of 73's on Saturday, placing him in a tournament top-10 for the second time this year. Reimers' second top-10 in his last three events was capped by a 73 on Sunday that followed scores of 70 and 71 on Saturday.
Freshman Jeffrey Heinicka tied for 56th after posting a 73 on Sunday. His three-round total of 225 included scores of 75 and 77 in the first and second rounds.
