
Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Furman

MACON, Ga. – Mercer freshman Emily Krogman posted a season-high 14 kills and hit .500 as the volleyball team fell to Furman, 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 25-6) on Friday evening at Hawkins Arena.
Mercer fell to 6-16 (2-7 SoCon) while Furman jumped to 14-6 (7-2 SoCon).
Krogman's career night featured 14 kills on 22 attempts with just three miscues. The San Diego, Calif. native also added two block assists in the losing effort.
Senior Caroline Carlton also reached a double-figure kill total, registering 11 on 33 attempts with three errors. Sophomore Hannan Noon chipped in 30 assists and six digs while sophomore Tori Penrod posted a team-high 12 digs.
After dropping the first set, Mercer fell behind 15-3 in the second frame. The Bears battled back however, using a 15-7 surge to tie matters at 20-20. Later in the set, the scoreboard reflected a 23-23 tie before a kill by senior Cara Tripp and a service ace by Penrod concluded the stanza.
In the third set, Furman held a slim 12-10 lead before employing a 12-5 charge to gain control of the set. In the fourth set, the Bears fell behind 12-3 and were unable to regain traction before surrendering the match.
The Bears continue SoCon play at Chattanooga on Saturday night. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
