SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday afternoon, taking down Savannah State 6-1 at the Tiger Tennis Courts in non-conference action.
The Bears (2-4) dominated the Tigers (1-4) from start to finish, sweeping doubles action and surrendering just four games, before winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
After earning the doubles point, Mercer went to work in singles action and Danielle Jones earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Lucie Payrat followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Roxy Bartz, Haley Powell and Amanda Bertani all cruised to easy wins, while Savannah State's only point came from a Mercer retirement due to injury at No. 4 singles.
The Bears return to action Thursday, Feb. 20, traveling to Chattanooga to take on the Mocs.
