Women's Tennis Falls to Georgia State, 7-0

ATLANTA – The Mercer women's tennis team was in search of a second-straight victory Monday afternoon, but Georgia State University had other plans, blanking the Bears 7-0 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in nonconference action.

The Bears fall to 1-2 on the young season, while the Panthers bounce back from a 6-1 loss at No. 12 Alabama and improve to 2-1 on the year.

Georgia State jumped out to a quick lead in doubles action, capturing each match by a score of 6-1 to secure the opening point of the day. The 23rd-ranked duo of Abigail Tere-Apisah and Masa Grgan picked up the win over Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat at the top spot, while Chaimaa Roudami and Linn Timmermann followed with a victory over Natalie Franklin and Liza Klyachkin at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.

Mercer dropped all six singles matches, including to the No. 8 player in the country, as Abigail Tere-Apisah earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jones at the No. 1 slot. Roxy Bartz picked up an opening-set victory at No. 3 singles, but Marcia Tere-Apisah battled back to survive 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 and send GSU to a 7-0 victory.

The Bears return to action Friday, Feb. 7, traveling to the Sunshine State to take on South Alabama.
