Women's Tennis Rolls Past Northern Kentucky, 5-2

MACON, Ga. The Mercer women's tennis team ran its winning streak to three matches Saturday afternoon when it defeated Northern Kentucky 5-2 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Atlantic Sun Conference action.

The Bears enjoy their first three-game winning streak of the season and move to a perfect 2-0 in league action to remain atop the conference standings.

Mercer continued to stay strong in doubles play and used an 8-6 victory by Danielle Jones and Lucie Payrat at the No. 1 spot, while Natalie Franklin and Haley Powell battled past Sierra Nellessen and Yasmine Xantos 8-7 (7-5) at the No. 3 slot to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.

Roxy Bartz opened singles play with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, and Powell followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to leave Mercer a point shy of victory. Franklin and Liza Klyachkin provided that winning margin, each cruising in straight sets to send the Bears to a 5-2 win.

Mercer returns to action next weekend, traveling to Stetson March 28 for a battle with the Hatters. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
