JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer University women's tennis season came to an end on Thursday when they lost to Stetson in the Atlantic Sun Tournament 4-0 at the UNF Tennis Complex.
Stetson gained the doubles point to start the match-up and then won two straight singles matches. Danielle Jones, out of the No. 1 spot, pushed her match to a tie-break, but dropped the tie-break set 7-3 to give the Hatters the match-clinching point they needed.
Liza Klyachkin had pushed her game to a tie-break, as well, but it was ended early due to Stetson clinching the necessary number of victories.
The Bears have a lot to build on for next season with only two players graduating. Having made the conference tournament for the first time in three seasons is a great launching point for Coach Hayes to continue developing the program.
