KENNESAW, Ga. – The Mercer University women's tennis team defeated in-state rival Kennesaw State by a score of 4-3 at Fair Oaks Park on Wednesday.
Mercer (9-11, 3-2 Atlantic Sun) won the first two matches over Kennesaw State (5-11, 1-4 A-Sun) and then they took two more after the Owls slipped one by. The win vaults the Bears into the top-five in the A-Sun.
Roxy Bartz, Natalie Franklin, Haley Powell, and Liza Klyachkin all won their matches in straight sets. Lucie Payrat also had a good performance as she pushed her match to a third set but fell just short in a tie-break.
The pair of Natalie Franklin and Haley Powell won their doubles match, but Kennesaw took the other two to gain the doubles point.
Wednesday's win was payback for last year's 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Owls.
Mercer will return to action this Saturday at home as they host North Florida. Matches will begin at 10:00 a.m.
