Men's Golf Wraps Up Play at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer University men's golf team fired a final round score of 317 to finish 14th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday at Florida's Mark Bostick Course.
The Bears recorded a team total of 911 in the three-day event, after carding scores of 299 and 295 on the first two rounds of play. South Florida took home the team title, while Arkansas and Florida State rounded out the top three.
Sophomore Emmanuel Kountakis paced the Bears on the weekend, carding a team-best 76 on Sunday to finish 43rd overall with weekend total of 224. Trey Rule shot a 79 in the final round of play, closing the event with a score of 226.
Sean Smothers finished third for Mercer with Sunday's total of 80, wrapping up the tournament with a three-round total of 236. Jerry Ren tallied a score of 82 today to finish the event with a 232-stroke effort, while Jeffrey Heinicka shot an 83 for a three-round score of 235.
The Bears will have a three-week break, before returning to play on March 8-10 at Auburn's Tiger Invitational held at the Grand National Golf Course in Opelika, Ala.
