Ren Leads Mercer on Opening Day of Tiger Invitational

OPELIKA, Ala. – Freshman Jerry Ren wrapped up the opening round of the Tiger Invitational among the Top 20 individuals, leading the Mercer University men's golf team into 15th place after Sunday's 18 holes of action.
The Bears recorded a team score of 309, finishing the day 21 shots over par. Tournament host Auburn leads the field after one round with a total score of 290, while Mississippi (294), Kansas State (295) and Tulsa (295) round out the top four.
Ren fired a team-best 2-over-par 74 on Sunday, carding three birdies and his first eagle of the season to finish the day in a tie for 18th place overall. Trey Rule and Sean Smothers each recorded rounds of 77 to tie for 49th, while Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr. rounded out the scoring with a total tally of 81.
Mercer resumes play at the Tiger Invitational tomorrow morning, as the action tees off at 8:30 a.m.
