MACON, Ga. – The Mercer beach volleyball squad hosted its second home match of the season on a perfect Tuesday afternoon, as the Bears took on No. 8 Georgia State in an intrastate matchup. The Panthers earned a 4-1 win over the Orange and Black.
Mercer's best performance of the day came from Gretja Otten and Jessica Johnson at the No. 4 position. The duo teamed up to hand the Panther pairing of Alexis Elmurr and Jessica Fourspring just their second loss of the season, winning in straight sets by a final of 21-16, 21-19. Otten and Johnson are now 7-7 on the season and 2-0 when playing at No. 4.
The Bears were competitive in a number of other positions but were unable to force three sets on any of the other four courts to give GSU the victory.
Mercer improved on its first meeting with GSU back in early March, as the Bears fell by a final of 5-0 in that outing.
The Bears are now 0-7 against Georgia State in the all-time series.
