Mercer Fifth After Two Rounds at APSU Invitational

Spencer Ball in hunt for top-five finish
DICKSON, Tenn. – Spencer Ball is one-over-par individually through two rounds of play while Mercer owns sole possession of fifth place after shooting a two-round 591 (294, 297) on the opening day of the F&M APSU Invitational at Greystone Golf Club on Monday.
The Bears fired the fifth-best first-round score of the field (294) over the first 18 holes of play, but a nine-over-par 297 in the second round limited them from advancing up the leaderboard. Ball, who has shot even-par in four of eight rounds this fall, continued to impress with his 73 and 72 cards Monday.

Mercer sits eight strokes outside of second place, which is owned by UT Martin heading into the third and final round. Murray State (+3) owns a five-shot lead after a 287 score in the second round. The Bears are five strokes ahead of Samford (+20) in sixth place.
Mercer on the Individual Leaderboard
Ball is just two strokes outside of a tie for third place after two rounds of play. The sophomore's 73 and 72 in rounds one and two have him in prime position with 18 holes remaining. Jerry Ren, who is playing as one of Mercer's two individuals, shot one-under par in round two to bounce back from a 77 in round one.
Coach Kayden's Take
"We had a very positive first round where we had to deal with 20-mile-per-hour wins and still shot 287 collectively," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "However, I'm disappointed in our second round; we didn't play the par threes or fives well at all and it reflected on the score card. We're still within shot of second place at this tournament; it is very doable for our team."

Mercer is paired with host Austin Peay State and Southern Conference foe Samford for Tuesday's final round. The Bears will tee off at 9:30 a.m. ET.
