Mercer shoots first-round 290, Mary Janiga in third place
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mercer shot 2-over-par (290) and was led by senior Mary Janiga's 69 (-3) in the first round of the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday.

The Bears are fourth overall and trail host Missouri (-6) by eight strokes, but are just four shots within second-place FGCU (-2) with 36 holes to play. Janiga, who owns sole possession of third place individually, is one of three Bears inside the top 16.

The Bears started strong and led the field through nine holes of play at 5-under-par before falling back over the final nine holes. Mercer trails host Missouri (-6), FGCU (-2) and FIU (-1) and is closely followed by Missouri State (+3) and Fresno State (+4).

Mary Janiga led the charge on Monday with a 3-under-par 69, which a collegiate-low single-round performance by the senior. Janiga is in sole possession of third place after an eagle on No. 10 and four birdies, including three straight on holes No. 2-4.

Fellow upperclassmen, Payton Schanen and Terese Romeo, are inside the top 16 after shooting 71 and 73, respectively. Schanen picked up birdies on holes No. 1, 2 and 17 while Romeo worked around a double-bogey on No. 15 with four birdies.

Mercer's starting five golfers will tee off on hole No. 1 alongside Missouri State and Fresno State. Individual Tiffany Kim will pair up with golfers from Bradley and Missouri and tee off on hole No. 10.Â
