Mercer Men in Eighth at Grandover Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Mercer men's golf team shot 301-298 (598) over the first 36 holes at the Grandover Collegiate on Saturday and will enter the final round in eighth place overall at the Grandover Resort.

Mercer (+23) is eight shots outside of the top five teams in the 12-team field. Spencer Ball and Lino Galdin (individual) both shot even-par 72 in the first round. Sunday's third round will start with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be provided on BirdieFire.com.

Coach Kayden's Take
"We played a bit better in the second round while battling through windy and wet conditions in Greensboro," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "The first nine holes of the first round were solid. The guys are fighting in a highly-ranked field and although we don't have our A-game, we're competing hard against teams that you can expect to see in NCAA Regionals.

"I'm encouraged by our fight. Spencer Ball was our most consistent golfer today with 14 consecutive holes of shooting even par. There's still a lot to play for in the final day."

Mercer on Team Leaderboard
At 23-over-par, Mercer enters Sunday's final round just eight shots outside of the top five teams in the tournament. The Bears own a nine-shot lead on ninth-place VCU.

Mercer on Individual Leaderboard
Spencer Ball led the Bears individually, shooting 72-74 on the day to head into the third round with a tie for 18th place. Ball birdied No. 10 on his first hole of the first round and proceeded to shoot even par over the next 14 holes.
