Bears shot first-round 296, play suspended in second round
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mercer men's golf team is tied for third place at the David Toms Intercollegiate after round two was halted due to inclement weather and darkness on Saturday at LSU's University Club.
Â
Play will resume at 9 a.m. (ET) on Sunday with the third round to follow immediately after. The Bears carded a first-round 296 (+8) and were tied for sixth before climbing three spots with a strong start to the second round; Mercer is 3-under-par in the second round with all five of its golfers through at least the first seven holes.
Â
Three Bears – Tyler Copp, Stanton Schorr and Martin Plukka – are inside the top 25 individually. Live results for the remainder of the David Toms Intercollegiate can be followed on GolfStat.com.

Coach Kayden's Take
"After a very slow start today, we battled back and were able to get 27 holes in," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "The positive is that we're off to a strong start in the second round. Everyone is near par and Tyler [Copp] is continuing to play really strong golf for us.
Â
"There's a lot of golf left to be played in this tournament with half of the 56 holes still remaining on Sunday. If we come out and have a good performance on Sunday, we'll be in great shape and have a chance for another quality finish. We had a few too many double bogeys in the first round, so we have to eliminate mistakes off the tee moving forward."

Mercer on Team Leaderboard
The Bears will look to avoid losing momentum when second round action resumes Sunday morning. Mercer was collectively 3-under-par through a full seven holes of the second round and had made the biggest jump in the team standings among the 14-team field at that point. Despite being well off the top two teams – LSU (-12) and Louisiana (-9), Mercer is tied for third with Louisiana Monroe and LSU's B-Team.
Â
Mercer on Individual Leaderboard
Sophomore Tyler Copp owns a share of eighth place after shooting 1-under-par (71) in the first round. Four birdies helped Copp overcome a bogey and double-bogey on holes No. 10 and 11 in the opening round. Meanwhile, Stanton Schorr shot even-par (72) in the first round and is currently 1-over-par after three bogeys and two birdies in the second round.
Â
Sunday's Second & Third Rounds
The second round will pick up immediately starting at 9 a.m. (ET) on Sunday. Pairings will not be repaired; all golfers will continue playing in the same groups that they played in on Saturday. Tournament officials plan to fit 54 holes in.
