Mercer Dominant at Idle Hour Collegiate Championship

Bears own 20-stroke lead heading into final round of home tournament
MACON, Ga. – Three Bears shot even-par or lower to lead Mercer (286-287) to a 3-under-par performance and a 20-stroke lead on the field after 36 holes of play at the 2018 Idle Hour Collegiate Championship on Monday.

Mercer, which is the two-time defending champion at its annual fall tournament, will enter Tuesday's third round as the only team shooting under par; Eastern Kentucky is in second place at +17. Senior Terese Romeo is the clubhouse leader with 18 holes to play after shooting 70-70 (-4). Romeo is followed by Payton Schanen (-2) in second place and Mary Janiga (E) – who is playing as an individual – in fourth place.

The Bears led from start to finish on the opening day of the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship, jumping out to an early lead with strong play from multiple golfers. Mercer shot 2-under-par (286) in the first round and owned a nine-stroke advantage before pulling away in the afternoon with a 1-under-par second round.
It was a team effort for the Bears on Monday as all seven golfers finished the day tied for 26th or better in the individual standings. Terese Romeo collected nine birdies on the day, including twice on the par-3 No. 12, to lead the 74-woman field. Payton Schanen, who double-bogeyed her first hole of the day on No. 1, responded with six birdies over the final 15 holes.

The best individual turnaround of the day came from Tiffany Kim, who shot a 1-under-par 71 in the second round after posting an 81 over the first 18 holes of action.
